Gas lens for WP17, WP18 and WP26: which one fits?

Do you have a WP17, WP18 or WP26 torch and are you looking for a gas lens? Then you quickly run into a question: does a gas lens from a WP9/20 torch also fit mine? Here you can read how to recognise your torch, which parts you need and how to choose the right combination.

Which torch do I have?

The torch type is often printed on the torch head or in the manual. WP9 and WP20 are small and medium torches, WP17, WP18 and WP26 are the well-known torches with a larger head. Not sure? Measure your torch head or send us a photo, and we will help you check.

What is the difference between WP9/20 and WP17/18/26?

The thread that holds the gas lens on the torch is different for the two families. Our PW cups and gas lenses are made for WP9/20 torches. If you have a WP17, WP18 or WP26 torch, you need a gas lens adapter 17GL. That is basically a WP9/20 gas lens with the thread for a type 17/18/26 torch. With the adapter you can use our cups on your torch too, without buying other parts.

Which thickness do you choose?

The gas lens and the collet must match your electrode. There are three common thicknesses:

1.6 mm for thin work and low current.
2.4 mm for most jobs.
3.2 mm for heavier work and higher current.

Choose the same thickness for the adapter, the collet and the electrode. Every adapter needs a collet of the same thickness, which you order separately.

Thread or rubber ring (NQ)?

There are two versions. The threaded version is for cups with a thread. The NQ version with a rubber ring is for glass cups without a thread, where the rubber ring holds the cup in place.

Which cup fits?

With the adapter, every cup from our WP9/20 range fits your WP17/18/26 torch. You choose the size based on your work. Read our article on choosing the cup size and on what a gas lens does.

Good to know

An adapter is small, but without it the cup does not fit. Feel free to order an extra one as a spare.
