PW Electrodes purple / E3

These are tungsten electrodes with the purple E3 colour code. The big advantage of the E3 is that you can weld all materials with it, on both AC and DC. If you switch from aluminium to steel or stainless steel during the day, you do not need to change electrodes or open a second box.

The electrode burns stably and gives a calm arc. For DC, grind it to a sharp point; for AC, the tip may be slightly rounded. Always grind lengthways along the electrode, so the arc stays neatly in the centre and does not wander.

You choose the diameter based on your collet and your welding current. A 1.6 mm electrode is for thinner material and low current. 2.4 mm is the all-rounder for most workshop work. 3.2 mm is for higher current and heavier material.
